FAQs
Hey whānau,
We're reaching out on behalf of the Wairarapa Repair Café — a growing movement of community-minded people coming together to fix things, share knowledge, and keep valuable items out of the landfill.
We’re currently preparing for our next big event on Saturday, 6th September 2025 at the Hub at the Skatepark in Queen Elizabeth Park Masterton from 11am to 2:30 pm, and we need your help.
We’re calling on skilled community members — just like you — to volunteer your expertise for a few hours. Whether you’re a professional or a passionate tinkerer, you can make a real difference by helping others repair items such as:
-
Small electrical appliances
-
Bicycles
-
Plants & garden tools
-
Jewelry
-
Clothing & textiles
-
Toys
-
Musical instruments
-
Whatever skills you can contribute
What You’ll Be Doing:
-
Donate a few hours of your time on the day
-
Help others troubleshoot and repair their items
-
Share your skills and tips — especially with young people keen to learn
-
Be part of a welcoming, fun, and purposeful event
If you run a repair business, this is also a great chance to promote your work! We’ll gladly display your flyers at the event and can promote you as a community partner on our website and social media.
What We Ask of Visitors:
People coming for repairs will be asked to:
-
Bring one or two items that need fixing
-
Be willing to learn how to repair it or source the needed parts
-
Embrace the spirit of sustainability, skill-sharing, and collaboration
Why It Matters:
This isn’t just about fixing stuff — it’s about passing on knowledge, making intergenerational connections, and building a circular economy in our region. You’ll be helping reduce waste and building a culture where people care for their belongings, the environment, and each other. By showing up, you’re showing what’s possible when community comes first.
This Repair Café Wairarapa event on September 6th is joining the Repair Café Festival Aotearoa — a week-long celebration by Repair Cafés across Aotearoa of sustainability, skill-sharing, and our own community-led repair achievements. As we restore treasured items together, we’re also raising awareness about the #RightToRepair and supporting #RepairCafeNZ, a campaign to empower people across Aotearoa to reduce waste, keep valuable items out of the tip, and pass on vital repair skills to the next generation.
Interested? Let’s talk.
Please get in touch if you're keen to volunteer or want to learn more.
Ngā mihi maioha,
Your volunteer team
